Plans have been lodged to build a new housing development at St Peter’s Road to the east of Bournemouth town centre.
The Berry Court proposal involves the replacement of a council-owned surface car park with a development of 113 high-quality apartments for the private rental market.
The transformation would include a new 217-space multi-storey car park.
The application has been submitted by the Bournemouth Development Company, a regeneration partnership delivering Bournemouth Council’s Town Centre Vision.
It follows a public consultation and exhibition of plans held earlier this year.
Duncan Johnston, Director, Bournemouth Development Company, said public feedback had helped develop the original design plans.
Mr Johnston said: “We have listened to feedback and responded accordingly. This is now a scheme that will transform Berry Court positively and help to bring much needed new homes to the town centre.
“Accelerating the opportunities for market rent housing in the town centre mean more people can live in high-quality accommodation, so stimulating the local economy.”
Councillor John Beesley, Leader of Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “Attracting new residents to come and live in the heart of Bournemouth is a key strand of the Town Centre Vision.
“The success of the imaginative Citrus Building shows that Bournemouth is reaping the rewards of the Bournemouth Development Company, our 50/50 partnership with Morgan Sindall Investments.
“With the addition of Berry Court, we are entering the next exciting phase of development which will mean we can accelerate our delivery of new homes in Bournemouth.
“These are urgently needed, but we will not lose public parking which is so vital to the town’s economy and for workers in the area.”
Outline proposals to develop Berry Court were approved by Bournemouth Council last year.
The formal, detailed application is now with the Council for consideration under the statutory planning process.
Bournemouth Development Company has already delivered the Citrus Building at Horseshoe Common, student accommodation at Madeira Road for Arts University Bournemouth and the Madeira Road multi-storey car park overlooking Wessex Way.
