Four local firms have been appointed to support an innovative partnership which will regenerate Bournemouth Town Centre.
They have been appointed by The Bournemouth Development Company, the public-private partnership steering the initiative, and will supply planning, accountancy and communications services.
Around 17 sites, mainly car parks, will be redeveloped over the 20 year life of the partnership; bringing new homes, businesses, shops, family attractions and improvements to public spaces. The Council will use its share of profits to fund further improvements throughout the town, with Westover Road among the priority areas.
The four firms appointed are planning, design and environment consultancy Terence O’Rourke, chartered accountants and business advisers Princecroft Willis, web designers Yammayap and communications specialists Deep South Media.
Duncan Johnston, a representative of The Bournemouth Development Company, said: “Our work is all about securing the long term economic and social vitality of the town and, with such a skilled community in Dorset, we’re determined to recruit local talent to support us as much as possible.
“Their skills and insight will help us progress this exciting initiative to enhance Bournemouth for future generations, cementing its status as a vibrant place in which to live, work and visit.”
The Bournemouth Development Company is a partnership between Bournemouth Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments established to deliver improvements as part of the council’s wider Town Centre Vision.
The first project is to help rejuvenate the Horseshoe Common and Old Christchurch Road by replacing the nearby Leyton Mount car park fronting Old Christchurch Road with apartments and commercial units. Under the proposals parking spaces will be replaced with a multi-storey at neighbouring Madeira Road Car Park.
Ends.

A flavour of what’s in store includes:
How the Town Centre Vision fits in
Bournemouth Borough Council has developed a strategy for the town centre called ‘Bournemouth Town Centre Vision’.
Present development in Bournemouth has been piecemeal – the vision takes a complete look at the town centre, ensuring development is comprehensive and coordinated – and that’s where The Bournemouth Development Company comes in.
